TV production in Scotland is to continue to rise predicts the Scottish director of Creative Skillset.

Alasdair Smith, speaking ahead of celebrations for the 15th anniversary of the Glasgow Film Office, highlighted recent production that had taken place within the city, including Brad Pitt Zombie film World War Z, as well as Cloud Atlas and Under The Skin, starring Halle Berry and Scarlett Johansson respectively.

With TV and advertising shoots also continuing to take place throughout the city, an increase in demand for TV production in Scotland is predicted to offer more job opportunities over the next five years, alongside the BBC’s commitment to increase network TV production in Scotland by 9% by 2016.

Alasdair Smith, Scotland director of Creative Skillset said: “With the increase in film, TV and advertising productions in Glasgow and with 2012 being The Year of Creative Scotland, it is timely to highlight that the opportunities available in this sector will continue to grow. It makes it a very attractive option for those currently considering their future career.

“As well as TV production, behind the scenes roles in theatre and music performance are also real growth sectors. And many roles, such as a live events producer, can work across a number of industries,” he added.
