AVG copyright complaint reinvigorates Rickroll meme

One of the internet’s most pervasive memes, the practice of duping unsuspecting web browsers with the promise of one link but diverting them instead to Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ music video instead, was interrupted for 24 hours following a copyright complaint.

Known as Rickrolling the collective joke has been played by everyone from the White House down and has seen the original clip rack up 10’s of millions of hits.

Copyright holder AVG Technologies mysteriously are looking to bring the party to an abrupt end by pulling the plug on the video, although it was swiftly reinstated following a 24hr hiatus.
