Cardiff City Football Club’s Malaysian owners are said to be mulling a break with the past by undertaking a complete rebrand that could consign the clubs historic blue strip to history.

Instead the club are said to be eyeing a red design that may even stretch to the colour of their stadiums seats in the belief that the switch will present a more dynamic image to Far East investors.

Discussions pertaining to the new livery are already underway including the creation of a new badge, although officials are adamant that the ‘Bluebirds’ nickname shall remain – however incongruous.

In a statement Cardiff City said: “As a club we also appreciate the importance of our history, along with our position within the community. We fully recognise the legitimate interests of the fans, supporters and media in the affairs of the club and their right to information in respect of the same.”

An ongoing review of operations is expected to conclude by next week with a comprehensive briefing following shortly thereafter.
