The Red Brick Road, the incumbent agency for the Tesco £110m ad account has announced that it will not be taking part in the repitching process, and has resigned the balance of the business across Tesco stores, .com, bank and telecoms.

It was announced earlier this month that Tesco was calling a review of the account, and The Red Brick Road had originally said that it would take part while continuing to work on trade communications.

Paul Hammersley, partner of the Red Brick Road, said: “We respect Tesco’s decision to review their brand advertising but have decided to dedicate our attentions to our other clients and new business opportunities. The time has come for us to take control of our destiny and focus on building a strong, integrated and independent agency.

“As Tesco was our founding client and some of our people have worked with them for decades, this was a very difficult decision, but we are certain that it is the right one. We wish all the people at Tesco with whom we have worked so closely for so long all the very best.”
