A number of celebrities are seeking legal advice after it emerged that a Virgin Atlantic employee may have leaked details of their travel arrangements to the press.

It follows the resignation of a senior employee at the airline following email evidence that they had passed on detailed flight information of at least eight celebrities to the Big Pictures.

This includes a message seen by the guardian from Big Pictures to the employee which said they were “trying to sort you out some money with accounts”.

Ashley Cole and Sienna Miller are thought to be amongst the victims, who also include Jermaine Defoe, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow , Robbie Williams and Nicole Sherzinger.

All are thought to now be seeking legal advice in the wake of the revelations which the airline is taking “extremely seriously”.

A spokesperson said: "The allegations that have been raised are extremely serious and we have launched an immediate investigation.

"The security of customer information is our highest priority and we have robust processes in place to ensure that passenger information is protected. The incident that has been alleged concerns eight customers' flights booked in 2010 and we are in contact with all of those people.”
