Artist reimagines Sgt Pepper album cover
Sir Peter Blake, artist behind the iconic Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club album cover, has reworked the classic piece to mark his 80th birthday celebrations.
Blake, who penned the original in 1967, used style icons of the day such as Marilyn Munro and Marlon Brando to provide a hip backdrop to his piece, a theme reflected in the 2012 follow-up which incorporates the likes of J.K. Rowling and Amy Winehouse alongside Sir Paul McCartney.
Blake said: "I've chosen people I admire, great people and some who are dear friends. I had a very long list of people who I wanted to go in but couldn't fit everyone in. That shows how strong British culture is.
"The Sgt Pepper album cover was made by cutting pieces of cardboard and hand–colouring them. This one is computer generated. I often thought that if I did it again it would be very quick on the computer but it was very laborious."
The artwork will be placed on public display at the Vintage Festival at Broughton House, Northamptonshire this July.
