NHS North East has unveiled a staff engagement campaign, designed and developed by Blumilk, asking NHS staff to consider their awareness of vulnerable patients’ needs.

The ‘Do you understand?’ campaign, which was trialled for two weeks in January and now set to run for the rest of the year, uses a combination of both online and offline channels, including; posters, email footers and bannerstands to help raise awareness.

Jen Armstrong, marketing manager at NHS North East, said: “We have been really impressed by the campaign created by Blumilk, which resulted in a real positive response from staff, and many requests for further training. The campaign has been a huge success, so much so that we are encouraging other NHS regions to launch it.”

In England, NHS staff will find approximately 2.5% of patients will have a learning disability, so the people with learning disabilities (PWLD) campaign was created with this in mind.

Colin Robertson, managing director at Blumilk, said: “We have really enjoyed working with NHS North East on their PWLD campaign, and seeing how effective it has been when put into practice. It has been great to see the campaign make such a difference, especially for such an important cause.”
