British band The Ting Tings is launching its new album Sounds From Nowheresville with an augmented reality cover.

From Monday fans can watch the band perform their new song Hang It Up simply by pointing their smartphone at the album sleeve.

The innovative design was developed by Engine Creative using Aurasma augmented reality technology. Fans can take advantage of it by downloading the free Aurasma app from the App Store or Android Marketplace.

"In the past, fans of bands like The Ting Tings have only been able to enjoy artwork on album covers. Now, thanks to Aurasma, they can watch the album come to life and listen to the content inside," said Martina King, managing director of Aurasma.

Kelly Bush, senior marketing manager at Sony Music UK, added: “Bringing the artwork to life on the CD cover for The Ting Tings is hugely exciting. Aurasma’s augmented reality opens the door to a more interactive relationship with the consumer via otherwise two dimensional means.”
