A south London cinema has apologised to parents after young children booked into the U rated Puss in Boots were shown a trailer for the violent 15 rated exorcism movie The Devil Inside.

Children as young as toddlers had queued with their families to watch the adventures of a cutlass wielding animated cat – but were instead subjected to images of a woman with a crucifix cut into her tongue, and a skull shooting flames from its mouth at the devil.

Distraught families reported that their children were reduced to tears by the images with parents forced to cover their children’s eyes whilst shouting at cinema staff to have the offending clips turned off.

Cinema staff subsequently apologised to parents.

According to rules issued by the British Board of Film Classification the cinema could face a fine or lose its license as a result of the incident.
