Singing sensation Adele has proven to be a Twitter sensation too after stats emerged showing the entertainer clocked up more than 10,000 tweets a second in the moments after winning Record of the Year at the Grammys.

In a blog post the micro blogging site noted that this figure made Adele’s sixth and biggest accolade the most tweeted moment of the ceremony as people logged in to quote and comment on her acceptance speech.

The word ‘Grammys’ was mentioned a total of 5m times in tweets issued between noon and midnight on Sunday, helping to push news of Whitney Houston’s death down to the fifth most mentioned artist during that twelve hour period.

According to an analysis undertaken by Bluefin labs the Grammys garnered 13m comments across all social networks, eclipsing every other entertainment event of last year – including the Super Bowl.
