Guardian News & Media has appointed LOVEFiLM’s chief technology officer Mike Blakemore as its director of engineering.

Blakemore will be tasked with overseeing the development of the Guardian’s interactive and QA teams, working within the recently formed digital development team.

He will take up the role in May, reporting to Tanya Cordrey, director of digital development.

Tanya Cordrey said: “Mike is a fantastic hire for the Guardian, and will bring with him a wealth of skills and experience that are completely in line with the Guardian’s forward-thinking approach towards digital innovation. Heading up our world-class engineering team, Mike’s role will accelerate our next generation of multi-platform digital plans, and we can’t wait to have him on board."

Mike Blakemore added: “The Guardian has long been a leader in digital publishing innovation, and one of the few media companies that truly understands the power and potential of the internet. I look forward to joining a talented team to continue to deliver great products to Guardian readers around the world.”
