Two leading lights within the British badminton community have made headlines off court after it emerged that they had become embroiled in a bitter spat online.

Imogen Bankier and Jenny Wallwork are both competing for a spot at the UK Olympics this year but that competitive spirit descended into insults when Glaswegian Bankier took to Twitter to remark: “Just watched the English nationals… why can English people not serve?!’

The remark didn’t go un-noted by her |English born rival who retaliated: “‘So the one with the ‘lighthearted banter’ is injured AGAIN!”

‘I’d go for the ropey serve any day ;-) #banter’, and ‘Could have guessed to be honest, your [sic] usually crippled. #weak.”

Bankier defended her original remarks claiming that they had been just “banter”, an explanation which didn’t wash with Wallwork who made the following suggestion: “I suggest u keep your ‘banter’ to yourself or ‘jog on’ back to Scotland.”
