Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has been given a baptism of fire on Twitter after fielding a range of vehemently hostile questions from irate tweeters as part of an “AskTony” technology event.

Intended to form part of Interfaith Harmony Week the event was inevitably hijacked by political opponents querying the Iraq War, his tax affairs and a questionable relationship with Colonel; Gaddafi.

Blair, a known technophobe, had received extensive tuition in the art of tweeting although fell back on his politician’s gift of ignoring awkward questions when asked by Adam Jacob: “When you read 1984 were you aware that it was a novel, and not an instruction manual?"

Speaking about the late atheist intellectual Chrsitopher Hitchens, Blair said: "Chris was great, deeply spiritual if not religious. People of faith should never be afraid of secular dialogue."
