Attempting to delve into the psychology of an internet ‘troll’ a BBC investigations team have tracked down a Cardiff based of the breed; Darren Burton aka ‘Nimrod Severen’.

Identifying a series of violent, bigoted and racist postings made by Burton under his pseudonym the BBCs Declan Lawn confronted Burton to enquire as to what effect he thought his remarks might have on his victims, replying: “"Yeah." What does he think about them? "F*** 'em.”

Defending his actions Burton stated that Facebook was an “open forum” and that even if convicted past precedents suggested he would only receive a jail term of around nine weeks.

Dismissing any such sentence out of hand Burton scoffed: “Nine weeks? Nine weeks in jail? What's that?"
