The first Android App designed for the Met Office has been completed by Mubaloo.

The free-to-download app has been created to include a widget and alerts for severe weather, allowing users to access weather information directly.

An app has already been released by the Met Office on iOS for iPhone and iPod Touch, which will also be relaunched with a new design and functionality, also developed by Mubaloo.

The update will feature three hourly forecasts, UV forecast maps and information on the likelihood of snow or rain. The new design will aim to make the app all the more easier to navigate.

Charles Ewen, head of web and media at the Met Office said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the new Android app and updated iOS app. Both apps are free and offer easy access to our forecasts 24 hours a day. Mubaloo have delivered both apps on time and to a high spec which we are extremely pleased with.”

Neil Commander, account director at Mubaloo, added: “It has been hugely enjoyable and a great privilege to design and develop the new Met Office weather applications. The opportunity to work with the Met Offices’ comprehensive weather data inspired us to produce an accessible and elegant application that we hope will be well received by existing and future app users.”
