Labour MP Tom Watson, who has led the campaign against News International and its conduct involving news hacking and the payment of police for information, has claimed that Rupert Murdoch has seen draft designs of the proposed replacement of the News of the World – the Sunday Sun.

Watson, who had also been involved in the Media Ethics Committee that has interviewed prominent members of the media, including Rupert Murdoch and his son James, Tweeted the following message: “A News Corp source tells me Rupert Murdoch has seen the draft designs of the Sunday Sun with a launch in April at a discounted price.”

The Sunday Sun has long been rumoured for launch since the closure of the News of the World last year, although News International has never confirmed that it plans to do so.

The launch of the newspaper would be expected to see The Sun newsroom work seven days a week.

A spokesperson for News International said it would not comment on the Tweet.
