Matt Bullas, MD of Click ConsultMatt Bullas, MD of Click Consult

Digital marketing agency Click Consult has been ranked the UK’s number one SEO agency for the fourth year in a row by TopSEOs, an independent authority on search vendors.

The TopSEO website rates companies on a number of categories including needs analysis, keyword analysis, on page optimisation, off page optimisation and reporting methods.

Matt Bullas, managing director of Click Consult, said: "Being recognised once again as the UK's top SEO Agency is a fantastic achievement and provides clients with the reassurance that we offer the very best service out there.

“By delivering tailored SEO solutions; we work tirelessly to go above and beyond to ensure online success for each and every client. This accolade demonstrates the consistently high results we have seen by developing new transparent tracking technologies here at Click Consult.”

SEO.co.uk came second on the search, while Greenlight came third, Jabba SEO came fourth and Hit Search came fifth.

TopSEOs is not "an independent authority on search vendors". The cost for inclusion is thousands of pounds every month. As far as I can tell, an initial list is created by TopSEOs to scare companies into paying for a listing, thinking that their competitors must have done this too in order to be reviewed. Having spoken to them by phone about a different list on the site, I know that they do continue to try and push for the money. We've highlighted to them that they're wasting their time to try and get us to pay; we don't want to be part of a lie. Most of the information isn't even accurate with wildly unrealistic clients, turnover and fulltime employees. I haven't a clue on what the monthly fee is used for if it is supposed to be for the evaluation service; clearly doesn't work when hardly any of the information supplied is correct. Rant over.

This is disgraceful. As a specialist in SEO, I know enough to know that TopSEOs is a paid-for service that is famous for being biased and skewed towards the companies who pay the most to be included into that directory. Why not read more about it from SEObook, a well respected blog by Aaron Wall, a well respected SEO by his peers: http://www.seobook.com/topseos-com-review-top-seos-paid-rating-service

Why not read more here? http://www.theseoblog.org/topseos-an-independent-authority/ http://forums.seochat.com/search-engine-optimization-28/the-topseos-com-...

As for Click Consult, I do not want to give you my opinion but I can only direct you a testimonial here: http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.seoconsult.com

Top SEO's independent, what a joke. Pay more and get higher up their list. What is most disappointing is that a reputable publication like the drum would not see through this sham and instead publish tosh like this. If Click Consult are the best that the UK search market has to offer in SEO then we should all hang our head in shame.

My agency (Greenlight) came 3rd apparently (stated in the Drum's article) but we don't pay TopSEOs a penny. So, I'm confused. Are we saying that TOPSEOs charges some agencies and not others (!) or that they are just incredibly poor at communicating their methods?

Yes that is the case.

"We charge a standard fee from agencies and software developers for our time to evaluate. If an agency or a software provider doesn’t have the fee available and we deem them to be a star performer based on research done on another tool or an agency, we may still highlight them on our rankings list. Service agencies and software developers may also commit funds towards the continued research and development and marketing of the topseos.com brand to further assist buyers make more informed decisions." - http://www.topseos.co.uk/disclosure

Hi All, The Ambergreen response is that we've been 'top' for several categories on Top SEO's over the years. We haven't paid them a penny and we have no idea how they rank companies against each other. We dont rate their opinions, they mean nothing and I dont think that people that looking for search marketing services should either. There is too much 'hot air' out there already in our over crowded market place. As always, if someone puts out enough hype, sadly, someone else will believe it.

I have a LOT of respect for the Drum, but this article is an embarrassment.

Lisa Hume is a credit to Ambergreen. There is no doubt there is reputable seo companies on Topseos who dont pay - as this lends credibility to the rankings and 'winners' - why I asked for my company to be removed. It lends the winners credibility to be ranked (apparently) against reputable companies.

TOPSEOS has no credibility in the Global SEO community and it's embarrassing this article made the Drum magazine website.

Topseos is a sponsored awards - you pay to be ranked higher.

Topseos is nothing more than a Lead Generation website that makes very questionable claims. You pay, you can get an award to use in your marketing.

There are many complaints about topseos - you can decide for yourself here on an article I posted as a response to this post by the drum:

http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/topseos-complaints-awards-2012/

or go directly to one of the latest articles on topseos

http://www.stateofsearch.com/topseos-kill-the-hypocrisy-its-time-to-take...

or have a look at what the global seo commnuity thinks of Topseos

http://sphinn.com/story/146009

As I said - hardly credible 'awards' for the Drum to be covering as 'news'.

Micrositez was another company very prominently wearing the TOPSEO's badge. 1st for Link Building, 2nd for Web Design & 3rd for SEO, Until April last year.

I did have a connection with the place but due to their questionable morals and ethics I was relieved to be made redundant.

The link below will give you an idea of their approach.

http://www.seomoz.org/q/micrositez-seo read Ben Head's comment.

Whether its SEO/Click Consult or Micrositez etc. do your due diligence as there are reputable companies out there but it's down to individuals to hunt them out. These companies will easily take £XXXX of you for one key term, ship it off to India for some Link Building at a cost of £XXX and pocket the difference.

Reading this annoys me too, especially as I was lied to by a sales person at click consult! They signed me up to a 12 month contract and now it turns out that half of the work promised by the sales adviser which he said was included in the contract (please note he has now left the company, which is very suspicious) is extra - the fee I agreed to was £350 per month for PPC, which was to include a way of tracking phone calls and also to test adverts and web pages. However, once I'd signed up it turned out that the testing of web pages was an additional £350 per month (i.e. Double the price) and the phone service was an addtional cost. As a compromise they have offered to include the phone service, but insist on charging the £700 per month fee. I read an article by their MD about "offering our clients unparalleled levels of customer service". When I asked to cancel the contract - they have said no and are holding me to a contract which is totally useless in my eyes. The unfortunate thing is I trusted this guy and it was all verbal, so don't have a leg to stand on - shame and very annoying. So I question their commitment to customers - I have told them on a number of occassions that I am unhappy and want to cancel, but they are holding me to the contract, which in normal circumstances I would be happy to do, as a contact is a contract, but in this case I have been seriously mislead! This has left a very bad taste in the mouth and I don't like doing business in this way.

We have had a turbulent relationship with Click Consult Ltd / SEO Consult which I do not want to go into full details as it would take a long time to explain with all the reports we have to back this up.

Basically in my opinion I feel they miss-sold the services they could offer and the work that has been done is in no way beneficial and in some cases could even be detrimental to us. Also the amount of work that appears to have been done is very limited and in my opinion not worth the money they charge.

Now we are finding out the hard way that basically due to the contract if you don't like the service you have to pay the full amount, in our case tens of thousands on pounds, even if they don't perform.

I would like to gain as much information about experiences that others have had with them. I'm looking for factual responses and tangible evidence which should it be required we can taken to court.

I understand that some customers of Click Consult Ltd / SEO Consult have been ordered to sign no disclosure agreements after settling out of court with them, so I understand that responses might be limited.

We have spoken to a few ex customers and employees who confirmed similar experiences and I thank you for your time, but the more people we can discuss this with the better. If you are having similar problems at the moment please also contact me so that we can discuss this matter in detail.

Thanks for any information that anyone can offer, if this goes to court and they favour Click Consult Ltd our business will be forced into closure.

Please contact me at jon.hoyle@buycleverstuff.co.uk or on +44 (0)1244 458885

I worked in house for a company after click consult, and my job was basically to remove the thousands and thousands of links they'd acquired from directories (before the disavow tool) because the company I worked for had been penalized.

Then, when the cookie law came in, Click Consult offered to kindly make the site one of those cookie notices - for £1000!!

They're the scummiest bunch of chancers I've come across in the industry
