BBC Scotland has announced a new team of editors who will be responsible for its news and current affairs, including Karen Johnston as managing editor.

Johnston has been promoted from within BBC Scotland with responsibility for all staffing matters, as well as lead editorial on travel and weather, as well as the planning of Royal events and ‘other big stories’ an internal memo by interim head of news John Boothman revealed.

Other appointments include Huw Owen as radio editor, who will join in March, Daniel Maxwell as editor of Newsnight and Politics, Tom Connor as editor online and sport, Diarmid O’Hara as editor of Reporting Scotland and Television Bulletins, and Marcus Ryder as editor of Investigations and Special Programmes.

The Drum revealed last week that BBC Scotland has chosen Susan Donald's post as the first of four editor posts that will be made redundant through a cost saving exercise.

Ten editors at BBC Scotland have been asked to apply for six remaining posts,of which one was held by Donald.
