The Sun newspaper has today launched a smartphone app for Android devices.

It will cost 69p for the first month and then £4.99 for a 30-day subscription.

The app will automatically update itself throughout the day with breaking news and it comes loaded with other 'mini apps' including Mystic Meg horoscopes, a Live Match Centre featuring football scores and a QR code scanner.

Gary Thompson, associate editor (digital) at The Sun, said: "Users will have instant access to stories from the newspaper they know and love, and with bonus features such as the Live Match Centre and breaking news, the smart thing to do is to download this app now."

The tabloid is planning to follow this launch with an app for Apple devices in February.
