The Scottish Government has today launched DirectScot, a prototype for a Scottish public services portal.

Developed by Edinburgh agency Storm ID, the site is intended to provide people and businesses with a simpler view of all public information and services available to them.

It aggregates data from a variety of sources including the Scottish Government website, Direct Gov, four local authorities (Edinburgh, South Lanarkshire, East Lothian and Midlothian) and the Scottish Business Gateway.

At the centre of the site is "a powerful search engine" to help users find relevant information. They are also prompted to set their location.

New content will be added to the site during a two-month consultation period.
