It's billed as a dog food commercial that masters and dogs can share. Specifically the German ad for Beneful pet food features a high-pitched sound, like a dog whistle, that only dogs can hear.

"It's touted as an effort to capture canines' attention," said Adweek of the Nestlé Purina spot , adding, "Given the discretionary income of the average Shiatsu, it hardly seems worth the effort."

Previously U.K. pet-food maker Wagg Foods rolled out food-scented posters to lure dogs (and their owners) over for a sniff as they walked by.

The Sun said of that effort that scientists had combined 15 mystery fragrances to create the dog-food smell, which apparently "drives dogs wild."

Tongue in cheek, Adweek said Nestlé's pitch to pooches, wasn't such a stretch. " We humans have been jumping at the sound of our masters' voices in TV ads for years."

Commenters on the mag's website. however, said their dogs weren't all that impressed. So were Beneful barking up the wrong tree.? Let's know what your dog thinks.
