Viewing figures for the BBC’s Christmas output has been boosted after more than 2.5m people who missed out on the initial broadcasts caught up via the BBCs online catch up service over the following seven days.

Big name shows such as EastEnders, Doctor Who and Ab Fab bore the brunt of the additional viewings with the BBC estimating that their overall viewing figures were boosted by as much as 75% versus those who merely watched the broadcasts.

EastEnders was the most popular show aired on Christmas Day, garnering 9.9m viewers, a figure which rises to 12.8m if alternative mediums (such as Sky+) are taken into account.
