Having already targeted the people of Mexico and striking public sector workers with his particular brand of wit BBC petrol head Jeremy Clarkson has now upset an entire subcontinent after setting the Top Gear Christmas special in India.

23 of the 5m viewers who tuned into the festive edition were aghast at antics which included Clarkson driving round a slum in his Jag – with a toilet fitted in the boot.

Another saw Clarkson place signs such as “Eat English Muffins” and “British it for Your Company” – which snapped to read “Eat English Muff” and “Shit for Your Company”.

Clarkson was also depicted stripping off his trousers in front of two Indian dignitaries – whilst demonstrating the function of a trouser press and joking that he used it to make naan bread.
