Channel 4 reveals best Christmas ratings since 2005

Channel 4 had its best Christmas ratings in six years as more people watched 4 over the Christmas period than any year since 2005, with the share of viewing at 7.2% for the core channel.

The channel also received its highest viewing figures for Christmas Day since 1999. Gordon's Cookalong Live received a peak of 1.4million viewers, while Alan Carr: Chatty Man Christmas Special received 1.7million.

The best performing programme over the Christmas period, 23 to 27 December, was the Big Fat Quiz of the Year, which brought in 3.5million viewers - a 15.1% viewing share.

Across the five days Channel 4's share was up by over a third compared to 2010's peak transmission hours (1730-2400) and experienced the highest increases in share for whole day of any terrestrial channel Year on Year (+27%).
