The BBC has canned an episode of comedy quiz show QI which featured Jeremy Clarkson in the aftermath of the presenters controversial opinions on strikers.

The episode, which was scheduled to air tonight, will instead be replaced by another new episode of the Stephen Fry hosted programme.

Clarkson’s blacklisted episode may be shown at a later date.

Insiders state that the decision is nothing to do with the content of Clarkson’s material on the show and everything to do with creating the impression that they take seriously allegations made in relation to past conduct.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "It is not unusual for the running order of programmes to change. The billed episode of QI will be shown at a later date."
