The NUJ has raised concerns about the formation of Media Scotland, which will see Trinity Mirror merge The Daily Record, The Sunday Mail and Scottish and Universal Newspapers, which it has been speculated is likely to lead to further job losses within the organisation.

Following the news of the formation of the new media organisation earlier this week, including the departure of editor-in-chief Bruce Waddell, many have speculated that the merger will mean a crossover of jobs, which the NUJ has also expressed concerns about.

Paul Holleran, NUJ Scotland organiser told The Drum; “The NUJ chapels have concerns about what this will mean for the future of the various titles. If it is just another cost-cutting exercise by the back door then we should all be concerned as to the impact on quality. If however it is a realization by management that content is king and the papers thrive on quality Scottish stories then we might be turning the corner with a healthy strategy. We will no doubt find out as the review takes shape over the next month or so.”
