Heavy winds of up to 90mph in Scotland has led schools being closed, transport cancelled…and #HurricaneBawbag becoming the number one trending topic worldwide on Twitter.

Despite websites such as Scotrail using the hashtag #scotstorm to update passengers, #HurricaneBawbag has become the unofficial hashtag of the bad weather, with several Twitter users mocking the less-inventive American names for hurricanes.

However, Stirling Council is one local authority who has noticed the trend, and had begun using the hashtag in its tweets: “Schools and Transport affected due to severe weather - Stirling Council Website for details http://my.stirling.gov.uk/disruptions #scotstorm #HurricaneBawbag”.
