We R Interactive is set to enter the music arena, following a €150,000 grant from EUs’ MEDIA programme for an online music game.
The social games publisher was the only successful UK company in this MEDIA competition for its game, provisionally titled I AM STAR. The money will be used for pre-production of the title.
I AM STAR will allow players to ‘live the life of a music star, from bedroom to concert hall’.
The MEDIA programme is a support initiative from the European Union aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the European film, TV and new media industries.
Elio Leoni-Sceti, shareholder, said: “There is a rich heritage in console based music games that have proven there's an appetite for user interaction, yet to date interactive music has not successfully translated to social platforms. We R Interactive is uniquely positioned to address this opportunity and take interactive entertainment to a global music audience.”
We R Interactive has also announced the appointment of Geoff Heath OBE as an advisor. In this role, he will advise We R Interactive on company strategy, structure, commercial development and best practice.
David Rose, CEO of We R Interactive, said: “The UK has tremendous heritage in games, music and film, the combination of which has tremendous global potential. So much has been stated about the lack of support for the UK industry in comparison to global competition, therefore it’s fantastic to see a UK games company recognised through this European MEDIA grant.
“Geoff’s insight and huge experience will be vital to helping us realise our ambitions.”
