Advertisers have ensured that Ricky Gervais is to host the Golden Globes for a third time, despite offending many members of the Hollywood elite in his previous stints.

Gervais will host the ceremony on 15 January, after organiser the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made the announcement through Twitter.

It is understood that while his jokes hosting previous ceremonies didn’t go down well with many of his targets, Gervais was popular with advertisers as he meant an increase in viewing figures.

The Golden Globes announced: “After weeks of speculation it’s finally official. Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes for a third year.”
