A new weekly children’s comic has been launched, entitled The Phoenix, with Waitrose giving away a special edition prequel issue this week.

The Phoenix, designed in partnership by the comic’s in-house team and Together Design, in order to establish a personality, positioning and design approach, as well as a masthead and style guide, will be released in January 2012.

Edited by Ben Sharpe, the prequel edition, ‘Issue Zero’, will be released on 17 November, with an exclusive code being printed in the Waitrose Weekend magazine, with the first 10,000 readers being given the opportunity to order a free copy using the code on The Phoenix website.

Matt Baxter, creative director at Together Design, commented: “Working with the young and committed team at The Phoenix to bring the vision of the new comic to life has been an incredible experience.

“The carefully crafted comic will bring something unique to a childrens’ comic market filled with uninspiring franchise tie-ins. The Phoenix delivers a dedication to storytelling and the best contemporary comic art for children," added Baxter.
