The new live action game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" had the biggest launch of any game ever this week, said the company Activision .

The game shattered sales records, earning over $400 million in twenty-four hours in the UK and North America. More than 6.5 million units were sold , at around £40 in the UK and $60 in the US.

The game - slogan "There's a soldier in all of us" - features stunning big city action sequences, thousands of bullets and lots of explosions.

Chief Executive Bobby Kotick told the Wall Street Journal, "We believe the launch of 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories."

North America and Europe account for most of the revenue of Activision, which is majority owned by French firm Vivendi. Call of Duty's main competition comes from Electronic Arts who sold five million units of "Battlefield 3" in the first week the game was available.

Both games are expected to be among the industry's top sellers this year.
