John Lewis is launching its £6million Christmas campaign on Friday, with an advert featuring a cover version of The Smiths song ‘Please, please, please, let me get what I want’.
The advert will launch on Facebook and YouTube on Friday, before airing on TV during The X Factor on Saturday.
The advert, created by advertising agency Adam & Eve and directed by Dougal Wilson, focuses on the anticipation of giving a perfect gift to a loved one, with the cover song performed by Slow Moving Millie (Amelia Warner).
John Lewis’s director of marketing Craig Inglis said: “It’s a magical feeling when you find that perfect present for someone; there’s a great sense of anticipation from the moment you buy it to the moment you give the gift on the big day.
“That feeling is exactly what we’ve tried to capture with this year’s Christmas campaign.”
The advert will run for five weeks, with the 60 second version expected to be viewed by 44 million people at least once. There will also be 90, 30, and 20 versions of the advert, and marketing on-line and in-store to promote the campaign.
