Creative Edinburgh has appointed Janine Matheson and Lynsey Smith as directors of the organisation set up to help unite the interests of the creative sector in Edinburgh.

The pair will share the full-time post at Creative Edinburgh, which is set to be relaunched on 3 November at an event featuring Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop.

The organisation has been revived as part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s strategy to maximise the economic potential of the capital’s creative enterprises, and will initially focus on connecting businesses with each other, clients and industry opportunities.

The Council’s culture convenor, and Creative Edinburgh board member, Cllr Deidre Brock said: “The appointment of two dynamic and experienced practitioners to this post will really drive forward our plans for Creative Edinburgh. The fact that Janine and Lynsey run their own businesses in this sector means they have a great understanding of the opportunities and challenges that face the industry. A healthy creative sector is absolutely vital to Edinburgh’s economic prosperity and I’m very excited at the prospect of what we can deliver with Janine and Lynsey's involvement.”

Matheson is director and co-curator of Sierra Metro, a not-for-profit gallery based in Edinburgh, as well as working at the Cultural Enterprise Office. Smith runs her own business providing a variety of business services to organisations and practitioners and is a part time lecturer.

Creative Edinburgh’s current board members are: Ginnie Atkinson, June Edgar, Robin Macpherson, Councillor Deidre Brock, Mark Gorman, Ros Davis (acting chair), David Weir and Jeffrey Andrew Callaghan Meek.
