Free men's magazine Sport has undergone a redesign which includes a new-look masthead.

The masthead was created by Bath-based Lionhouse which worked alongside Sport's in-house design team. The agency's brief was to "communicate a sense of leadership and expertise".

Editor Simon Caney said: "The new masthead and redesign coincide with our fifth birthday. We were the first mass distribution free magazine in the market when we launched back in 2006 and this heralds a new era for us. It sets us up nicely to go into 2012 - which will be our biggest year with the London Olympics and European Championships."

The new look takes effect from this week's edition, which includes an interview with controversial footballer Joey Barton.

Plans to launch a Sport iPad edition are "nearing fruition".
