Gumtree is the latest company to announce its entry into the highly competitive Daily Deals market.

Taking on Amazon, Groupon, and eBay is an unenviable prospect, but the online classifieds website believes it can compete by giving consumers offers they actually want; Gumtree Daily Deals customers will be able to post deals they would like to receive on a designated Facebook page.

Gumtree’s head of marketing, Hamish Stone believes this more consultatory, reactive Daily Deals service will give Gumtree’s offering an edge: “Consumers are becoming increasingly savvy to the offers that are available," says Stone, "both on the high street and online, so it is vital to offer a unique and different platform in this competitive space.”

‘Crash Test Gummies’ – volunteer bloggers - have been recruited to trial the service, and will write about their experiences to increase engagement.

Initially, Gumtree Daily Deals is launching only in Brighton, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast. However, visitors to gumtree.com will be able to vote on which towns and cities the Daily Deals service should be expanded to next.
