Twitter's first Lottery has launched in the UK, offering users the chance to win a weekly jackpot prize, with the second prize going to the person who recruits the largest number of players.

The @NationalTwotto, aims to recruit 100,000 followers, with the prize jackpot aiming to be the equivalent of 1% of the number of players each week.

“When we reach this goal [100,000], then and only then, will our first sponsor start to Tweet and the first lottery be drawn,” explained co-founder Jono Casley

Web developer Casley, continued to explain the search for a sponsor for the lottery; “Well, we will have a rather powerful commodity. With over 100,000 active, engaging, and UK geo-located Twitter users, we give our weekly sponsor an opportunity to engage with our players by Tweeting up to five times per day for seven days.

"This model works for businesses as they can communicate with a highly active and engaged audience, monitor return on investment and extend their digital offering and awareness."

While there will be a main prize, the second prize will be handed to the person who recruits the largest number of players, making a donation equivalent to the jackpot, to a charity of their choice.
