Berghaus has denied reports that it has agreed a secret advertising deal with the BBC to promote its products.

Reports in the press have claimed, following an FOI request to the BBC, that a deal has been agreed offering the BBC a 45% discount on fashion products if worn on television by the corporation’s presenters.

Richard Cotter, Berghaus brand president, has denied the claims, saying that “No advertising or sponsorship deal exists between the BBC and Berghaus (or any brand) as this would break the BBC's editorial guidelines.”

Cotter continued: “Over the years, the BBC and its reporters (as well as those employed by other broadcasters) have chosen to buy Berghaus products for use while working outdoors. Of course, we are pleased that correspondents, camera operators and others working in the media choose our kit. As is the case with many other businesses, it is common practice for us to agree favourable trade terms for broadcasters such as the BBC, and for individual staff. However, there is absolutely no advertising or sponsorship agreement, or implicit understanding. We simply supply fit for purpose products that will both do the job and stand the test of time.”
