Steve Jones, presenter of the new US X Factor show, cut short his appearance on Piers Morgan's CNN chat show after Morgan's 's questions apparently turned to his love life.

Annoyed about being questioned over his past girl friends and not the reality music show, the Welshman simply got up and walked out. The show was being recorded for screening on Friday.

Steve later tweeted: “For the record I'm not ashamed to admit I stormed off @piersmorgan tonight. His line of questing was highly offensive. You judge #thisfriday.”

Piers later replied to a fan on Twitter asking him why Steve Jones was mad. "No idea. Had him thrown off my set yesterday for lewd conduct".

This is the second time Piers has had a walk-off. The first was when Tea Party politician Christine O'Donnell stormed out after refusing to talk about gay marriage and what she said about it in a new book she was promoting .

One thing you can be sure of. The walk-offs raise the ratings, not the other way about. And CNN's are well ahead of this time last year.

Steve Jones's past woman friends have included Pamela Anderson, Halle Berry and Fearne Cotton. He is now dating glamour model Keeley Hazell.

Just hours before his Piers Morgan appearance, the US X Factor host was pictured buying condoms from a local chemist before enjoying a date with the model at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

One commentator wondered if Steve was being a little bit presumptuous .

Earlier in the week Jeremy Paxman retired wounded after Piers and he clashed in a BBC radio interview about his suggestion that Piers was not prepared to talk about the British phone hacking controversy. Piers said he would certainly talk about it.
