Scottish Councils are to stage a 24 hour event on Twitter in order to inform taxpayers about the work that they do.

What We Do, is designed to raise awareness of council services and will take place from noon on Tuesday to noon on Wednesday.

Employees from 28 authorities will tweet about their day to day roles throughout the 24hr period; informing their followers about all areas of their work from refuse collection to roads maintenance.

Kate Bond, chairwoman of the National Communications Group which is organising the event, added: "Social networks like Twitter are going to become more and more important as a way for people to access our services.

“What We Do also gives us the opportunity to experiment with ways of using methods like this. We hope people will engage with this exercise and let us know what they think."
