Having run over 130 events in Glasgow, one of 12 host cities for this year’s Social Media Week, co-organiser Arvind Salwan, director of New Media Corp has hailed the week as ‘a success.’

The week was the largest Social Media Week in Europe, with 130 events running through out Glasgow, with some also taking place in Edinburgh and Aberdeen during the week as well.

It was organised by New Media Corp, alongside Twingtangibles and sponsored by digital agency Equator, which also hosted several events as well.

Commented Salwan: "It's been a huge success, from the first SP motion to feature a hashtag to the launch of Google+ Beta, from Glasgow becoming part of the Intelligent Community Forum to the launch of crowd-sourced initiatives, from the Nokia/ Foursquare experiment, to the new BBC site and the launch of See Glasgow's game... so many terrific developments that have consolidated Glasgow's international reputation for culture, innovation and creativity.

“There's been an incredible level of information exchange between people who would not normally find themselves at the event - a real social interaction through social media. It's been the biggest single social media and SMW event ever held outside the States, which is a real statement to make so, on behalf of twintangibles and New Media Corp, I'd like to say a huge thanks to all our partners, presenters and, most important of all, to the 4,000 attendees and the thousands that viewed online across Scotland and internationally, who made the week such a tremendous success. It's been a blast!"

The final events are currently running until 9pm with a closing party tonight set to take place in Glasgow’s city centre.
