New McCowans, the makers of Highland Toffee, has gone into administration.
The company, which employs over 100 people, appointed administrator Grant Thornton last Friday.
As well as Highland Toffee, the company also produced Wham bars, Pan Drops and Bonbons.
The company was founded in the late 19th century and was sold to Nestle in the 1960’s. It underwent two other acquisitions, most recently through two management buy outs in the last decade.

What a shame!
Remember it from my childhood,.. many moons ago.
At this rate there will be no brands left in Scotland.

A shame? This is a bloody travesty. No more having to bang it on the desk to break it into bits (Highland Toffee) or having to stretch the Wham bar three metres, whilst still having one end in your mouth and the other in your hand.
I for one, am in mourning. RIP.
me too - gutted.
That's a real shame. Part of my childhood gone.
I'm not fussed.
How surprising, given that both brands are part of the national diet.
