More than half of adults believe that should their mobile phone be lost or stolen, the data contained within it will be secure, according to research undertaken by The Carphone Warehouse.

Research, which saw over 2,000 people questioned, found that 53% of adults thought their data would be secure should their phone go missing, although 84% of those people also admitted to not having any software installed on their phones.

Despite this, 89% said they had installed security software on their laptops and computers.

The Carphone Warehouse will spend a week offer in-store advice on phone security, as well as offering tips online.

Also revealed by the study was that nearly half (47%) of people had used their mobile phone to buy music, clothes and insurance online, meaning that their account details had been logged through their phone.

Three quarters (78%) of respondents also said that they took and kept personal pictures on their phones.

David Rogers, mobile phone security expert, said; “While technology is evolving, there are easy ways you can keep your data safe and secure when using a mobile phone. Remembering PINs and passwords can be time consuming, but they are a simple and necessary to deter any prying ears from hearing your voicemail.”
