Facebook is to continue its efforts to grow the social media platform into an entertainment destination with the introduction of a real time stream of the content users are watching, reading and listening to.

Such a ‘ticker’ is expected to form the centrepiece of Zuckerberg’s “Watch, Look and Listen” theme at the upcoming f8 conference on September 22.

This event, to be held in San Francisco, is also expected to see big changes made to the poular “like” button with developers given the opportunity to create their own verbs such as “Want”, “Desire” or “Need”.

Facebook has been busily courting Spotify and Vevo to enable music and video to be streamed directly from within Facebook.

Film and TV streaming services, as well as some newspapers, are also expected to launch new Facebook products at the event.

It is the latest move toward realisation of Zuckerberg’s dreams of a “social web” in which users interact more freely around all forms of online content.
