It may restrict users to 140 characters but one tweeter has made do with just four for an embarrassing Twitter faux pas.

Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine has become the latest celebrity to come unstuck on the micro blogging site after tweeting the four letter expletive to his 43,000 followers.

The prim broadcaster had attempted to tweet #FF (Follow Friday) but ended up keying #FFS (For F*ck sake) instead.

Alerted to the erroneous tweet, Vine responded: “AN APOLOGY. Earlier I recommended people to follow, I now understand that FFS does not stand for 'Follow Fridays'. Sorry for any offence'.”
