The Bristol-based Vision conference is a two-day event taking place in the city’s Arnol Fini gallery this November. The event promises to provide a series of thought-provoking, inspirational and motivational sessions that will help creative businesses grow. But what exactly should we be getting excited about? The Drum has delved into the programme and selected five reasons why Vision is a must-see.

Vision 2011 Bristol

Pecha Kucha

Originally devised in Tokyo in 2003 as a chance for young designers to meet and present their work, Pecha Kucha went on to become a global phenomenon, with events held around the world.

Each presenter is allowed 20 slides, on which they must talk about for 20 seconds. Vision Bristol will be holding its very own Pecha Kucha on day one. The event hopes to mimic the success of last year’s, which featured, among others, Win Without Pitching founder Blair Enns, Poke founder Nik Roope and Aardman’s Gavin Strange.

Rory Sutherland – Behavioural Economics

Rory Sutherland, the well-known and charismatic vice-chairman of the Ogilvy Group in the UK will be discussing behavioural economics – an area that has become more and more important as digital technologies have been established.

Put simply, it means turning human understanding into business advantage. Sutherland, like many others, feels that agencies cannot afford to be anywhere else other than at the forefront of this thinking; join him on day two to find out why.

Mark Mason – 21 Hints and Tips for Agency Success

Serial entrepreneur Mark Mason will be providing no less than 21 nuggets of advice for all those who have or are thinking of launching their own agency.

Mason was founder of successful digital agency Mason Zimbler, before selling the business to American company Harte-Hanks. More recently, Mason launched app development agency Mubaloo which, with over 50 employees, is the largest of its kind in the UK.

Laura Jordan Bambach – The Importance of Women in Creative Teams

It’s a subject that many would be more likely to tip-toe around rather than address head-on – what are the differences between men and women’s creativity and what advantages do the fairer sex bring to the creative team? – But not Lbi executive creative director, Laura Jordan Bambach; she’ll be taking the bull by the horns after lunch on day two.

Night Vision

What conference is complete without the obligatory after party? Attendees can relax from 8pm on the Wednesday night at the appropriately-named “Night Vision”. Music for this year’s celebration will be provided by DJs from popular Bristol creative hangout, The Big Chill.
