Mystery surrounds the future of Navyblue co-founder and managing director Douglas Alexander, with sources claiming that he may have left the agency following a dispute.

Following the news that Alexander had stood down as chairman of newly launched organisation Creative Edinburgh, word has reached The Drum from several sources that Alexander may have also departed from the agency.

Indeed, when contacting the agency about Alexander’s decision to stand down as chairman of Creative Edinburgh, The Drum was told by a member of staff that they were unsure when Alexander would be available at the agency, while his out of office email message said he would return from holiday on 22 August.

Speculation from sources has said that Alexander may have been placed on gardening leave following a disagreement and that the company is currently examining how to resolve the situation legally.

No one from Navyblue had returned The Drum’s calls to clarify the situation at the time of writing, with co-founder Geoff Nicol said to be in a staff meeting for most of yesterday.

Last year, Navyblue was awarded the prize for Design Agency of the Decade at the Scottish Design Lunch, which Alexander collected.

Nicol and Alexander founded the agency, which has offices in Edinburgh, Johannesburg, Oman and London, in 1994.
