Online offer website Groupon’s web traffic has declined by nearly 50% in recent months according to the latest Hitwise data, while rival Living Social has increased its online traffic by 25%.

According to Online Media Daily, Hitwise has found that Daily Deal & Aggregator sites had lost 25% in traffic.

According to Bill Tancer, general manager of global research at Hitwise, the fall in traffic from Groupon in particular, over the summer has been ‘significant’ and could be explained due to the high level complaints that the service has received from customers.

Tancer added: “While consumer fatigue may be one factor another key consideration for these sites is to focus on the attracting new and preferred audience segments via the inbox.”
