BBC staff could recieve a bonus of 10% of their salaries if they are notified of their working hours 14 days in advance.

The Telegraph reports this morning that the BBC offers its 8,323 staff the pay supplement, while those who receive a warning one week in advance could receive an extra 20%.

According to the newspaper, BBC executives have admitted to be finding the allowances ‘embarrassing’ and have stated that they should be scrapped under the spend plan which will be published in October following the long-term freeze on the licence fee.

A spokesman for the BBC said: “We are looking at these allowances as part of the overall Delivering Quality First process but no decisions have been made yet.”

The total bonus payments are estimated to be £32.5m a year.
