Fresh after introducing an in-house photo upload tool Twitter is following through with implementation of an image gallery feature.

The move is intended to make user profiles more visually orientated by hosting visual content uploaded to the service.

Third party apps such as TwitPic and Instagram will be compatible with the feature with the users 100 most recent images uploaded since January 2010 being displayed.

Dubbed ‘user galleries’ these will be displayed on the users profile alongside a few taster pics, browsers can then click the ‘view all’ button to see everything in a grid view, or specific images in detail alongside the associated tweet.

Tweeting about the launch, Twitter’s communication manager Carolyn Penner said: “We’re rolling out one of my fave features today: user galleries! View photos an account has shared on Twitter. Sit tight – it’s coming soon.”

Fortunately the service will accommodate more than just 140 pixels.
