BBC Twitter correspondent Jonathan Agnew has complained of “rudeness” and “racist abuse” from followers on the micro-blogging service Twitter.

The commentator has been subjected to a torrent of abusive tweets throughout the current Test series – an event which has been running for the past two months.

Voicing his frustration Agnew tweeted: “Never had to block so many for rudeness/racist abuse. Back on duty in the morning. Will just keep blocking....(seems so pointless!)"

One user, tifosiguy, said: “bloke tweeted he has had racist and abusive comments and was blocking folks.

“Next thing I know he's blocked mehe has a thin skin. I've had discussions with him last week and couple of exchanges today. Bloke went ahead and blocked me.”
